HANOVER COUNTY, Va. -- Investigators have identified the Mechanicsville woman found dead in a yard as 30-year-old Reena Jadav.

Jadav's body was found Monday morning, at approximately 5:43 a.m., along the 10000 block of Colony Bee Place.

Her body had "obvious signs of trauma," investigators said.

Law enforcement sources indicated she had been shot, however her official cause of death has not yet been released.

"Investigators continue to look into the circumstances surrounding this incident and are working in conjunction with the Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause of death," Hanover Sheriff's spokesman Sgt. James Cooper said.

Neighbors said Jadav lived in the area near where her body was discovered.

Officers could be seen searching the neighborhood Monday. Deputies walked shoulder to shoulder, looking through dumpsters and lowering themselves into storm drains to search for evidence.

The neighborhood is near three schools, and in an area people consider very safe. Residents hope for answers as the crime tape waves around as a reminder of what they called a stark tragedy.

Anyone with information was asked to call Hanover Sheriff’s Office at 804-365-6140 or Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000.
