HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- Henrico police and emergency crews had their hands busy Tuesday afternoon after a man drove his pickup truck through the front of a commercial building.

It happened just before 2 p.m. along Mechanicsville Turnpike.

The accident caused the front part of the building to crumble and emergency crews raced to stabilize it. Mounds of bricks that toppled down were scattered around the front of the building.

The commotion likely caught the attention of drivers in the 3600 block of Mechanicsville Turnpike near Byron Street. Cars creeped by as emergency vehicles blocked two lanes in front of the shopping area. That building is home to jewelry store and a hair salon.

Witnesses tell CBS 6 they watched the driver hit a parked car before he careened into the front glass window of the building.

The driver suffered minor injuries and was treated on the scene by paramedics. A county inspector and a special tactical rescue unit from Henrico worked for a few hours to make sure the building was safe.

No word yet on whether the driver will face any charges.

Workers next door at the salon were not injured. They were asked to leave their building as crews removed the truck. Once that was done and the building was being stabilized by emergency crews, they were all allowed back into the salon.
