HANOVER, Va. – A woman's death is under investigation after she was found early Monday morning.

Just before 6 a.m. Monday, the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 10000 block of Colony Bee Place for a report of an unresponsive female.

Once units arrived on scene they located a female with obvious signs of trauma. Hanover Fire and EMS arrived and pronounced the female deceased.

Law enforcement sources said that the woman suffered a gunshot wound, but Hanover investigators did not confirm the cause of death.

However, officers could be seen searching the neighborhood Monday. Deputies walked shoulder to shoulder, looking through dumpsters and lowering themselves into storm drains to search for evidence.

According to neighbors, the woman was found outside, about 100 yards from what they said is her home.
