Violence in Richmond; 2 homicides in 8 hours

RICHMOND, Va.  -- Detectives are searching for gunmen after two people were killed in separate shootings that occurred within about 8 hours of each other in Richmond.

Police said the most recent shooting happened at the intersection of Nine Mile Road and North 30th Street in Richmond's East End at 12:40 Wednesday morning.

A man was found dead there with a gunshot wound, according to detectives.

Police shutdown Nine Mile Road for several hours as officers investigated and searched for the shooter.

Foxwood Apartments shooting

Earlier, at about 4:20 p.m Tuesday, police said they received a call for shots fired at the Foxwood Apartments, located in the 5000 block of Snead Road., near Broad Rock Boulevard. When officers arrived to the scene, one man was located with a gunshot wound.

He was taken to a hospital where he died.

It was unclear initially whether officers believed the shootings were connected. Police have not yet provided suspect information in either homicide.

There have been 37 homicides in Richmond in 2016.
