RICHMOND, Va. — Richmond mayoral candidate Jack Berry landed one of Richmond’s most well-known names to lead his campaign.

Businessman and former CEO of Ukrop’s Supermarkets Jim Ukrop and real estate developer Zarina Fazaldin were named co-chairs of Berry’s mayoral campaign.

“I am honored to have Zarina and Jim leading my campaign for mayor,” Berry said in a statement. “I have known both of them for a very long time through our mutual activities working to improve the City of Richmond, bring more people downtown, and grow investment in the city.”

Fazaldin, who co-founded L&Z Historic, LLC, called Berry a uniter who can not only help fix Richmond’s schools, but also attract young people and jobs to the city.

Ukrop, whose family-owned grocery stores were a stable in the Richmond-community for generations, touted Berry’s track record.

“Jack Berry is the leader we need in city hall because of his proven experience as the former CEO of Venture Richmond, county administrator of Hanover County, and deputy city manager for the Richmond,” Ukrop said. “He understands what is needed to run a complex organization, get our budget back on track, and bring new opportunities to Richmond. Jack is the kind of leader that identifies a problem and immediately sets to work to fix it, working in tandem with stakeholders and community leaders to make it happen. He’s done it time and again. He’ll bring that passion and experience to City Hall and get the politics out of city government.”

Berry is one of eight candidates running for Richmond mayor. Click here to read about all of the candidates.
