The 11th annual Filipino Festival

HENRICO: The 11th annual Filipino Festival is a community event with over 600 volunteers showcasing the richness of the Filipino culture and promotes a respect for and appreciation of the Filipino heritage. The two-day features traditional cuisine, folk dances and music and takes place on the grounds of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church at 8200 Woodman Road in Glen Allen. This year’s Filipino Festival celebrates Mindanao, the “Land of Promise”, with focus on indigenous groups T’boli and Maranao. Friday’s hours are 5-10pm and 10am -10pm Saturday.

Proceeds of the Filipino Festival support various ministries and project of Our Lady of Lourdes Church and Our Lady of Lourdes School, a Blue Ribbon school. This year, the following organizations have been added to the benefactors list: Alzheimer’s Association (Richmond Chapter), and Gallagher speaks up teen depression research and other charities that include the National Alliance on Mental Illness – Richmond chapter. For more details visit www.filipinofestival.org. You still have time to participate in the 3rd annual Race ‘N Roll 5K race to benefit the Colorado Fund for Muscular Dystrophy. This will be a chip timed race provided by Commonwealth Timing and will kick off with a 1 Mile Kids Fun Run  before the start of the 5K. Each Fun Run participant will receive a participation medal.
