RICHMOND, Va. — Richmond native and Benedictine graduate Townley Haas is set to swim for gold Monday night in the Men’s 200m freestyle at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
Haas, 19, qualified for the finals after posting the sixth best time in the semifinals Sunday night. The top eight semifinalist advanced to Monday’s final.

Haas, who also swam for NOVA of Virginia Aquatics, just completed his first year at the University of Texas. The accomplished swimmer won the 200 and 500 freestyle at the NCAA Championships this year.
Haas is also a member of the 4×200-meter freestyle relay team which includes Longhorn training partner Jack Conger and veterans Ryan Lochte and Conor Dwyer.
The Men’s 4x200m freestyle relay heats begin Tuesday afternoon with the final at 10:38 p.m.
