DES MOINES, Iowa — Donald Trump sought to correct the record Friday on his position on babies.

“I don’t throw babies out, believe me. I love babies,” the Republican presidential nominee proclaimed here, days after he complained about a baby crying during a campaign rally.

Trump conceded Friday that he suggested to a mother during a rally in Virginia Tuesday that “if you take that baby outside, it’s not so bad.”

“You can get that baby out of here,” Trump told the mother in the middle of his speech in Virginia after joking that he didn’t mind babies crying in the middle of his campaign events.

But Trump on Friday said that while the “whole place laughed” at his Virginia rally, the media twisted his words, with some outlets accusing Trump of ejecting the baby from his rally. The mother of the crying baby was not asked to leave the venue.

“I’m trying to speak in front of thousands — we had thousands of people in the room — and I said all right, keep the baby, don’t worry about it. Then after about two minutes, I said I’m going to counteract my order. If you take that baby outside, it’s not so bad,” Trump explained.

Trump said he was asked about the incident during an interview with a local Iowa reporter on Friday and said he took several minutes to explain himself.

He then jokingly offered a new plan for the baby who broke out crying in the middle of his rally.

“We’re going to take that baby to training school because it’s going to be the next great Pavarotti,” Trump suggested, drawing laughter from his supporters.
