Walgreens Rich. International Dragon Boat Fest & Anthem Moonlight Ride

RICHMOND: Sports Backers and Great White North are teaming up once again for the Walgreens Richmond International Dragon Boat Festival Saturday, August 6 at Rocketts Landing. Forty-two teams are participating, Teams are made up of 20 synchronized paddlers, with one person steering and one drummer, canoes are decorated to look like traditional Chinese dragon boats with dragon heads and tails and will race 500 meters up the river in 40 foot. Opening ceremonies start at 7:30am, at 10:30am, cultural performances from the Organization of Chinese-Americans – Central Virginia Chapter will start. Racing ends around 4pm. There is no walk up or event day registration.

 

Anthem Moonlight Ride - Grab your family and friends and join in the annual Anthem Moonlight Ride, all levels can participate in the Full Moon (15-mile) course and a Half Moon (8-mile) option. Wear your favorite character or costume and decorate your bike with tacky lights and enter the Virginia Credit Union Costume & Tacky Light Contest. Rides will start and end at Sports Backers Stadium, 100 Avenue at 8pm in waves. For rules and more information visit http://www.sportsbackers.org/events/moonlight-ride/. Online registration for the Anthem Moonlight Ride closes at 11:59pm on August 3rd. Walk up registration will be available on August 5th and 6th.
