CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The academic community is reeling from the news that a University of Virginia professor was arrested Tuesday morning, for alleged possession of child porn.
The UVA Police Department arrested Walter Francis Korte, Jr. Tuesday morning, according to reporting by affiliate Newsplex.
Korte faces two counts of possession of child pornography in connection with an investigation that began July 29.
Officials searched his Albemarle County home and his UVA office.
The university has placed Korte, who is the director of Film Studies in the Drama Department, on administrative leave, according to Newsplex.
According to his facultybiography on the UVA Department of Drama website, Korte was a program adviser for the Virginia Film Festival when it was founded in the 1980s. He has been at the university since 1970.
He is being held without bond at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail, Newsplex reported.
