RICHMOND, Va. -- Family and friends came together Saturday to remember thethree people killed in a house fire on Richmond’s Southside last week.

Rosa Fowlkes, 61, her daughter Ariel Hubbard Kirby, 30, and her 5-year-old grandson, Josiah Hubbard Kirby, perished in the blaze Wednesday.

Fowlkes was a nine-year veteran at the Richmond City Sheriff’s Office in the Community Services Division.

A group gathered in the juvenile court building’s parking lot to pray for the families of the victims and release balloons in their honor.

Sheriff C.T. Woody spoke highly of his colleague as he addressed the crowd.

“Her best trait to me was, showing her love for the community,” Woody said. “She did not believe in dividing people, but bringing them together.”

There is still no word what caused the fire.
