SHACKLEFORD BANKS, North Carolina — A Tennessee father drowned while he attempted to save his children who were caught in a rip current off Shackleford Banks, North Carolina.

A boater was able to save the children Monday afternoon, WITN reported.

The boater was unable to save their father, 35-year-old Rick Brown.

Brown and his wife attended the University of Virginia’s College at Wise, according to their Facebook pages.

Brown was a deacon at Piney Flats First Baptist Church in Piney Flats, Tennessee, church pastor Dr. Allen Davis told WCYB.

He is the fourth person this month to die in rip currents off the North Carolina coast, WITN reported.
