RICHMOND, Va. — A cool front moving into the state will trigger a few more showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening.

Some of these storms could contain strong, damaging winds and the area from Metro Richmond south is in a slight risk for severe weather (per the Storm Prediction Center).

As the front settles south, drier air will gradually settle into the region tomorrow.

This will result in more comfortable conditions tomorrow and Thursday.

A big ridge of high pressure and its associated dome of very hot air developing over the nation’s midsection will expand eastward by the weekend. This will bring some intense heat, with afternoon temperatures expected to reach the upper 90s, with heat indices over 100 degrees for the weekend.

This heat will linger into the early part of next week, although the ridge will likely begin to weaken a bit. This could result in scattered storms around on several days next week.
