HOPEWELL, Va. — A GoFundMe account has been established to help a Hopewell father who lost his wife and daughter in a boating accident.

Kim Privette, 35, and her nine-year-old died Tuesday when the fishing boat they were in capsized on the York River. Both mother and child were wearing life vests, but were trapped under the boat.

Family members, including Kim’s husband Philip, tried in vain to rescue the mother and child.

Philip was operating the boat when it began to take on water and eventually capsized.

“No amount of money could ever bring back our loved ones taken from this Earth far too soon. However, our support can help the gentlest of giants, Philip Privette as he must now face such a heartbreaking life change,” cousin Somer Lynn wrote on GoFundMe. “Please dig deep to help support the most caring, loving father and husband provide the best possible good bye as Kim and Madison rest in a better place.”

Anyone with information about what the family needs during this difficult time can email the newsroom here.
