RICHMOND, Va. -- On a hot summer day, nothing is better than an ice cold beverage and snacks, especially if you are working outdoors.

As part of our CBS 6 Gives campaign, meteorologist Nikki-Dee Ray hit the streets to help keep workers hydrated during one of Richmond’s hottest days of the summer.

First, Nikki-Dee Ray went to Costco’s to pick up some water, Gatorade and snacks for workers all over Central Virginia.

“Stay hydrated it’s so hot out here,” Nikki-Dee told a mail carrier in Henrico.

“Thank you, thank you so much,” she replied with a hug.

She then encountered some Henrico Police officers, members of Hanover Fire and EMS, and some local construction workers.

“It’s so hot it will scare you,” said one construction worker with a laugh.

The last stop of the day was the Virginia Home for Boys in Girls where she dropped off cookies, Gatorade, and some other snacks.

“We hope this goes to good use for all the kids and that they’re able to stay hydrated because we have some more hot days ahead of us,” said Nikki-Dee. “And hopefully the adults can stay hydrated as well so you can keep up with them.”
