HENRICO COUNTY, Va. — A Henrico father called it a brazen crime. Chris Stells said two men drove a minivan up to his Pershing Avenue home Tuesday afternoon, got out of the vehicle and walked into his backyard.

Stells and his family had just returned from a July 4 weekend at the river and the trailer was packed with their 4wheeler, a motorcycle, children’s toys, and tools.

A neighbor who saw the men inspecting the trailer confronted the strangers and asked what they were doing, Stells, who was not home at the time, said.

The men replied they were sent over to pick up the equipment.

That is when Stells said the men hooked up the trailer to their van and drove away.

“Your stuff is not safe. Even in your backyard it’s not safe,” Stells said. “I just really feel invaded. It stinks losing all our stuff.”

Stells estimated the thieves drove off with about $5,000 worth of equipment.

Police said the men were driving a silver Chrysler van.

Police described the suspects as heavy-set black men.

One of the men had a shaved head and wore a yellow shirt. The other man wore a red shirt.

Anyone with information was asked to call Henrico Police at 804-501-5000.

Pershing Avenue sits between Hilliard and Hermitage Roads.

The crime was reported at about 4:30 p.m.
