Call for downed tree leads Chesterfield police to driver trapped in car
CHESTERFIELD, Va. – Early Monday morning, Chesterfield County rescue crews responded to a call for a downed tree, and found a driver had gone over the guardrail and into the woods.
The accident occurred around 3 a.m. in the 1600 block of Turner Road, near the intersection of Elkhardt Road, according to police on scene.
The car appears to have gone off the side off Turner Road –which is about a 15-foot drop — and struck a tree on the way down, according to officials on scene. The driver was trapped in car by a large branch that fell on the car.
Rescue crews extricated the driver inside and transported him to Chippenham Medical Center.
Part of the tree was knocked into the road, and one lane was closed earlier Monday morning, with police directing traffic. It is now open.
The driver’s condition and extent of injuries are unknown at this time.
It is also unknown at this time if any other vehicles may have been involved.
The crash remains under investigation.
