RICHMOND, Va.Bryan Park will remain closed to all visitors, through Friday, July 8. That includes people entering on foot.

The park’s main entrance has been closed off while crews clean up from the major thunderstorms that hit the Richmond region two weeks ago.

However, pedestrians have been entering the park through other entryways — which weren’t marked as of Thursday morning.

Regardless, park management emphasizes that Bryan Park is closed to all visitors, as clean up continues.

Heavy equipment will be used throughout the park, on roads, and the parking lots to clean up remaining tree debris. Many of the roadways have been cleared but dozens of trees are strewn about and powerlines downed.

“We ask, for everyone’s safety, that you do not visit Bryan Park while cleanup is occurring or remove the signage stating that the park is closed,” said Norman C. Merrifield, Director of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities. “We invite everyone to visit one of our other many parks during the week.”

A list of Richmond parks can be found here.

Many trees and power lines fell at Bryan Park during the June 16 storm that pummeled the area. The Richmond Vegetarian Festival was scheduled to be held on June 25 at the Park, but was postponed until July 9.
