OMAHA -- Richmonder Townley Haas will swim for the U.S. during the 2016 Summer Games in Rio.
Haas, who graduated from Benedictine and swam for NOVA of Virginia Aquatics, won the men’s 200m free Tuesday night in Omaha.
"I never thought I would be here, let alone make the team my first time (at Trials)," Haas told usaswimming.org. "It’s all still amazing to me. I’m just trying to soak it in, I guess."
Haas swims for the University of Texas where he won the 200 and 500 free at the NCAA Championships this year.
In 2013, while swimming at NOVA Aquatics, Haas broke an 11-year-old record in the 500m freestyle that was once held by Olympic champion Michael Phelps.
Rio will be the first Olympic Games for Haas.
