RICHMOND, Va. -- Virginia State Police visited Beckett Wyatt at his room in VCU Medical Center. The eight-year-old is suddenly fighting Stage 4 Ewing's Sarcoma.

His parents Roger and Kymmie Wyatt said their son started complaining about leg pain a couple of weeks ago. They said it was minor, and Tylenol got rid of it. Their son seemed fine.

Then the pain worsened, and they took Beckett to the pediatrician.

"June 15 was the worst day of my life," his father said.

That's when they found out what they originally thought was growing pains was actually stage 4 cancer.

"He looked at me and said, ‘Dad am I going to die?'" Roger Wyatt said. "And I'm telling you no eight year old boy should have to ask their dad if they are going to die."

Since the diagnosis, the family has been overwhelmed with support from their new community. They just moved to the Richmond area in October for a job opportunity at Capital One.

Virginia State Police stopped by to swear in him in as junior trooper and pledged to stand by him through treatments.

There is a “Flat Beckett” group online. People around the world are taking pictures with the boy and sharing it.

"He's going to miss out on so much we figured why not come up with a way to let him live vicariously and have vacation all summer long," his parents said.

Friends set up a Go Fund Me account to help with the huge financial burden.

But the Wyatt family wants to help other families facing a similar fight. They say they couldn't imagine going through this without the support they've received, and they want to be supportive to other families facing pediatric cancer.

They are at the hospital Wednesday by their son’s side. It’s one of many nights they will spend there for the next year of chemotherapy and radiation treatment.

“He's a sweet kid and stronger than we gave him credit for,” Roger said.
