Police identify man killed after striking tree in Lancaster County

LANCASTER COUNTY, VA. – A Lancaster man is dead after a single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning in Lancaster County.

State Police said the crash occurred at approximately 12:05 a.m., when the driver ran off the road and struck a tree at the intersection of Pinckardsville Road and Carlson Road.

An investigation revealed that 1994 Chevrolet pickup was traveling south on Pinckardsville Road when it went ran thru the stop sign at the intersection and struck a tree.

The sole occupant was transported to Rappahannock General Hospital via med-flight where he died from injuries sustained in the crash; he was wearing a seatbelt.

The victim has been identified as Edward M. Butler, 58 of Lancaster County.

The crash remains under investigation.
