CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- Over three hours of security video showing the moments leading up to and after the fatal shooting of a teenager at a car wash was played during the second day of trial for a Richmond police officer Wednesday.
David Cobb, 47, is charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of 18-year-old Paterson Brown Jr.
He pleaded not guilty at Chesterfield County Circuit Court on Tuesday.
The nine-year Richmond Police Department veteran was off-duty the morning of October 17, 2015, when he fatally shot Brown at the Sunoco gas station on Midlothian Turnpike, according to police.
It was there, that police said Brown entered the off-duty officer's car and drove it through the wash.
The defense said that Cobb decided Brown was a threat after he made threatening statements about police officers.
The security video showed the teenager calmly enter and drive the Nissan Altima of Cobb's girlfriend into the car wash. He sat for about 20 minutes while workers washed the car.
After Cobb confronted the teen, Brown drove about 20 feet with the officer hanging onto the driver's side door. Cobb pulled Brown out of the car and laid him on his stomach in the car wash parking lot.
It takes first responders about seven minutes before Brown was lifted onto a stretcher.
Cobb's defense attorney said cell phone video of the shooting will also be played. The officer is expected to take the stand and testify.
The trial is scheduled to wrap up Thursday.
