CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. – A police stand-off situation is over without incident Monday afternoon. The incident took place at the Heritage Village Townhouses off Early Settlers Rd., which is behind Johnston-Willis Hospital.

Police said the incident started when they received a call from a woman who reported seeing a man with a long gun outside her home in the 1700 block of Early Settlers Rd.

The woman said she heard what sounded like a bullet whiz by her door into her home.  She then said she saw who appeared to be her neighbor standing in the parking lot with the gun.

Midlo standoff

When police and SWAT teams responded to the scene with their guns drawn, believing the neighbor was holed up inside a townhouse. They later found out the man whose home they responded to, was not at the residence and had not been there since leaving for work Monday morning.

Police said they found no shell casings and no evidence that a shooting took place in the area. They did acknowledge the woman made the right decision to call authorities when she thought she witnessed something suspicious.

The situation prompted the Precious Time Child Development Center, located at 1600 Early Settlers Rd, to be placed on lockdown.

In addition, parents tell CBS 6 they received a message from Greenfield Elementary stating that kids are not being released due to a possible shooting in the community.
