RICHMOND, Va. -- So far this year, Richmond International Airport has not hit 90°. Highs will break 90° on Saturday, making it the latest first 90° temperature since June 24, 2003. This will also be the hottest weather since last September.
A warm front will sweep across the state early Saturday morning, and this will be the leading edge of hotter and much more humid air. Highs away from the coast will reach the low and mid 90s. The higher humidity will produce a heat index between 95° and 102° for most areas.
Sunday will be a few degrees hotter with much of central Virginia reaching the mid and upper 90s. A cold front will slip southward later in the day, bringing cooler and less humid air for Sunday night into Monday. Humidity levels will creep back up by the middle of next week.
