GLOUCESTER, Va. -- The six-year-old boy raising money by running races in honor of slain Virginia State Trooper Chad Dermeyer has intensified his effort. In addition to running races around Virginia, Braxton Lee has now helped organize a race in Dermeyer's honor.

Braxton's 5K for Trooper Dermyer is scheduled for June 18 in Gloucester. Click here to register.

Registration for the run is free, but Braxton has asked runners to consider making a donation to the Dermyer family, the Daily Press reported.

"This was something that was easy for us to say yes to," Jason Todd, president and race director for Flatout Event, told the Daily Press. "It's just the right thing to do and we wanted to help him accomplish what he wants to do and help the family. We are able to honor Trooper Dermyer's memory and celebrate what a 6-year-old boy is doing to make a difference."

Last month, Braxton took part in the National Police Week 5K and the Semper 5ive 5K.

"He is just such a kind little boy very kindhearted and always has been," Braxton’s father Jarret told Greg McQuade.

Braxton decided to run nine 5Ks, which is the equivalent of more than a full marathon, to honor Dermyer.

Trooper Dermeyer was killed in the line of duty at Richmond’s Greyhound bus station on March 31.
