CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. — Three Chesterfield libraries will serve free lunches to children this summer.
The free lunch program at the Chester Library, the Ettrick-Matoaca Library, and the Meadowdale Library begins June 20 and runs through July 27.
While Chesterfield libraries are hosting the meals, children do NOT have to be from Chesterfield to eat there.
“Libraries are the hub of the community. We’re not just about books anymore,” Meadowdale Library branch manager James Hudson said. “We’re about engaging the community and providing opportunities.”
Hudson said both his library and the Chester Library participated in the meals’ program last summer.
Between the two, they fed between 30 and 50 children a day.
The meals, provided by Childcare Resources and the USDA, follow a school-meal menu and consist of items like sandwiches, trail mix, crackers, fruits, vegetables, juices, and milk.
“We’re very excited about providing this need to the community,” Hudson said.
The meals are made available to children 18-years-old and younger.
Meals are served from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the following county’s libraries:
- Chester Library, 11800 Centre Street, Chester, 23831, Tuesdays and Wednesdays
- Ettrick-Matoaca Library, 4501 River Rd, South Chesterfield, 23803, Tuesdays and Wednesdays
- Meadowdale Library, 4301 Meadowdale Blvd, North Chesterfield, 23234, Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays
