$50,000 unclaimed ticket: Did you buy Powerball ticket in December?

RICHMOND, Va. — The person who purchased a winning $50,000 Powerball ticket at a gas station in Newport News in December has until June 9 to claim their prize.

Lottery officials said someone bought the ticket for the December 12, 2015, drawing at the Stoneybrook Shell on Warwick Boulevard.

When the winning numbers were drawn, it matched four numbers plus the Powerball number to win $50,000. Th winning numbers in the Dec. 12 Powerball drawing were 2-14-19-30-62 with Powerball number 22.

The winner must hurry since winning tickets in Virginia expire, by law, 180 days after the drawing. That means this ticket expires at 5 p.m. (close of business) on Thursday, June 9.

The person who has the ticket should get in touch with the Virginia Lottery as soon as possible at 804-692-7777 or 757-825-7800.

All unclaimed Virginia Lottery prizes go to Virginia’s Literary Fund, which is used for educational purposes like upgrading technology for schools as well as teacher retirement funding.
