RICHMOND, Va. -- An area of disturbed weather that was located northeast of the Bahamas became Tropical Depression Two around 5 p.m. on Friday.

If its wind speeds strengthen to 39 mph or higher, it will be named Bonnie. Our first storm of the year was Alex back in January.

The consensus of computer model forecast tracks is to bring the center northwesterly towards South Carolina by Sunday. Bouts of heavier showers will affect South Carolina over the weekend, and some of these showers will affect the Outer Banks from late Saturday through Sunday and Monday.

For Virginia, the local effects will be more added moisture to the atmosphere, which will help increase the chances for thunderstorms Sunday into Monday.

At the beaches, wave heights will be slightly higher and there will be a higher risk of rip currents.
