RICHMOND, Va. — Richmond Police confirmed they received a call for shots fired in the 2500 block of Phaup Street, which is on the same block as Fairfield Court Elementary, Thursday afternoon.

Police tell CBS 6 officers responded to the scene, but found the shooting claims to be unfounded as there wasn’t a shooting victim or scene when they arrived.

Wanda McCutchen, who claimed she witnessed a shooting, tells CBS 6 reporter Mark Holmberg that shots were fired was from drive-by-shooting. She said a cross guard was walking kids across the street when someone opened fire from a vehicle.

McCutchen said at that point everyone ran inside the school and it was put on lockdown.

She said a few kids were in front of her house when it happened and she told them to duck down and take cover.

Fairfield Court Elementary is located at 2510 Phaup St. The school releases students for the day around 3:30 p.m. every weekday.
