As the recipient of the award, Lewis is receiving $2,000 to buy classroom supplies at The Supply Room Companies. She will also be receiving a $2,000 cash prize. The awards are sponsored by the Virginia Lottery, the Virginia PTA, and The Supply Room Companies, which are based in Virginia.

"Her classroom is warm and inviting to parents and students," said Krystle Walker, who nominated Lewis and has a student in her class. "She has a smile on her face when the students arrive, making sure they know she is glad they are there."

Lewis was among 800 teachers nominated from across the state for the award. A panel of judges -- one from each part of the state -- then made the selection.
