HENRICO COUNTY, Va -- Crews are closing a stretch of Creighton Road in Henrico for bridge work -- and it will not be open again for several months.
Crews are replacing the bridge on Creighton Road between Caddie Lane and Stone Dale Drive, just east of I-64. The bridge was built in the 1920s and is just one lane. By the time the project is done, there will be two full lanes. It's expected to take seven months to complete.
"It can barely accommodate two vehicles if you drive by very carefully, but it's really functioning more as a one-lane bridge than a two-lane bridge at this point," said Steven Yob, Henrico County's Director of Public Works.
In addition to its lack of capacity, the bridge also has some damage. Crumbling concrete is visible on it, and part of its railing is gone.
The project should be completed by December 2016.
