GALAX, Va. — Two months after Anastasia Alley and her infant daughter Alyssa Kenny were found dead in a Galax home, an arrest has been made in their murder.

Richard Denny Noftsinger, Jr., 36, of Galax, was arrested in the March 10 slayings.

“Late on the afternoon of May 17, 2016 information was received that resulted in the investigative team consulting with the Commonwealths Attorney for Carroll County Nathan Lyons. During that meeting a decision was made to obtain warrants for [Noftsinger],” a Galax Police spokesman posted on Facebook.

Noftsinger was charged with capital murder in the death of Alley and murder in the first degree in the death of Kenny.

Police have not yet commented on the possible connection between Noftsinger and the victims.

“This is still an active investigation and we will continue to pursue information as it is received,” the police spokesman said. “The department will continue to work with the Virginia Bureau of Forensic Science where evidence is still being examined. We anticipate as the investigation continues that additional items of evidence will be submitted for analysis.”
Noftsinger was booked at New River Valley Regional Jail without bond.

The town of Galax is located off Interstate 77, near the Virginia-North Carolina line.
