Police looking for leads after bystander struck in Shockoe Bottom shooting

RICHMOND, Va. — Richmond Police are looking for leads after a bystander was shot near the 17th Street Farmers Market in Shockoe Bottom early Saturday Morning.

“Hundreds of people were leaving clubs in Shockoe Bottom when a fight broke out near the farmers market and shots were fired. One of those shots struck an innocent bystander.” said Detective Sergeant Richard Edwards with the Major Crimes Unit. “We’re asking anyone who saw or heard anything or may have captured this incident on video to contact us as their information could help us solve this case.”

At approximately 2:10 a.m., officers responded to the 1700 block of East Main Street for a shooting. When they arrived, they found a adult man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The man is now in stable condition.

Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from an altercation in the parking area of the farmers market. However, the victim was not involved in the fight.
