HOPEWELL, Va -- Two Hopewell police officers on patrol Sunday afternoon made an important stop during their shifts.
Officers Brian Orange and Chris Hewett stopped to greet children in the Piper Square neighborhood. The two had bought some candy and gave it out to the children who came out to see them.
The officers also let the children check out their patrol car and play with the lights.
The stop coincides with the start of National Police Week. President John F. Kennedy designated the week of May 15th as National Police Week, and May 15th itself as Peace Officer Memorial Day. They were created in honor of members of law enforcement and officers who have died in the line of duty.
