RICHMOND, Va. -- Police identified the man found shot and killed Sunday at a Westover Hills Boulevard apartment complex in South Richmond as 25-year-old Hasheen E. Slaughter, of Provincetown Drive in Chesterfield.

Slaughter was pronounced dead at the scene when police arrived at the Somerset Glen apartment complex Sunday at about 8 p.m.

Slaughter, police said, was found unresponsive in the breezeway of the apartment complex with apparent gunshot wounds.

"I think it's really sad someone lost their life," neighbor Joey Matthews said. "Unfortunately it's too common right now. I wish people would think before they act."

Sunday's fatal shooting was the 24th homicide of the year in Richmond.

Richmond Police detectives are continuing the investigation into who killed Slaughter and why.

Investigators have not yet released information about a suspect, or suspects, in the shooting.

Anyone with information about the crime was asked to call Detective Jon Bridges at 804-646-4494 or Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000.
