Man killed when car runs off road, hits tree in Dinwiddie County

DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Va. — A 26-year-old man was killed in an early morning single-vehicle accident in Dinwiddie County.

Stg. Steve Vick with Virginia State Police said the wreck happened just after 4:20 a.m. on Route 1 just north of Route 726.

Officials said a 2002 Pontiac Bonneville was traveling southbound on when the car ran off the road and struck a tree.

Virginia State Police Trooper W. Craig investigated the crash.

The driver, Nicholas R. Sokol, died at the scene.

Vick said he was not wearing a seatbelt.
