Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden Spring Plant Sale or Spring PlantFest, Friday 9am– 5pm; Saturday 9am – 3pm, No admission fee required; regular Garden admission to visit the Garden. For details visit http://www.lewisginter.org/visit/events/calendar/.

Mother’s Day Weekend at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, regular Garden admission A three-day weekend  that includes the Spring Plant Sale. Friday, Spring PlantFest (plant sale) is 9am – 5pm. On Saturday, create the experience your mom would like. 10am – 4pm,  Spring PlantFest (plant sale) is 9am – 3pm. Sunday is the popular Mother’s Day concert with Glenroy Bailey & Co. (1 – 4pm). Food available for purchase in front of Bloemendaal House. Guests are also welcome to bring blankets or lawn chairs but no outside food or beverage. Activities in the Children’s Garden include “make-and-takes” for mom (10am – 4pm). Coming May 27 – September 18 – Nature Connects: Art with LEGO Bricks by Sean Kenney. The Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia will officially open its doors at its new location the Leigh Street Armory, 122 West Leigh Street, Tuesday, May 10. The public is invited to tour the museum Thursday at a VIP cocktail reception, tickets are $100; Friday free admission and live poetry during First Fridays from 7pm-9pm, and Saturday free open house 10am -5pm with performances by Culture Queen. The museum features more than 12,000 square feet, The first floor permanent exhibits feature the African-American experience during Emancipation, Reconstruction and the Civil Rights eras. The second floor features nationally recognized traveling exhibitions, for the opening the “Funky Turns 40: Black Character Revolution” exhibition showcases more than 50 vibrant pieces of 1970’s animation art. The exhibition will run from May-August. A traveling Romare Bearden exhibition, “Vision to Activism,” will be featured in September replacing Funky Turns 40. The East End will come alive with music and entertainment in Church Hill’s Chimborazo Park. The RVA East End Festival is a free community celebration with three days of performances, activities and a benefit for Richmond Public Schools. The celebration kicks off Friday from 5-8:30pm. Saturday’s line includes the Richmond Symphony with Vocalist Desiree Roots performing, concerts start at noon and goes until 9pm and artists will perform from noon to 6pm on Sunday. For more information log onto rvaeastendfest.com or call 804-788-4717. BCAN Richmond Walk, Roll and Stroll, Bladder Cancer Awareness Walk, Saturday, registration starts at 8:30am, walk 9:15am from H.F. Bulifant & Sons, LLC, 2001 Semmes Avenue, to Patrick Henry School and back. . Register at supportbcan.org/ampuprichmond, registration fees $25 adults, youth 12 and under $5. Que Pasa? Festival, a celebration of the Hispanic Culture, Food and Entertainment. Saturday from 11am – 7pm, along the Canal Walk, enjoy Latin Music, dancing, and food. Free Canal boat rides, free admission, pay as you go for food. Performers include the Cuban-inspired Band Caribe, Latin dance band Conjunto Sazon from Charlottesville, Latin funk band Zakke Band from Washington D.C., Bolivian Dancers from Washington, D.C., and The Latin Ballet of Virginia. The goal is to improve muscle tone, balance and mobility of physically disabled Veterans, while providing mental stimulation, enhanced self-confidence and self-esteem.
