MECHANICSVILLE, Va. — A local Chick-fil-A restaurant is helping two families who lost their loved ones in a single-vehicle crash on Cold Harbor Road last weekend.

The Chick-fil-A on Mechanicsville Turnpike and Bell-Creek Road is donating a portion of their proceeds from Monday to the families of 17-year-old Dylan Ballard and 22-year-old Elliott Hinton, both of Mechanicsville.

The proceeds donated by the community will go towards helping offset expenses to the victim’s families.

The fundraiser took place from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday. Ballard was a senior at Lee-Davis High School and Hinton was a graduate from the school.

The two were killed Saturday, April 23, when the truck they were riding in ran off the road and hit a tree. Two others occupants, including the driver, suffered serious injuries as well. Alcohol is considered a factor in the crash, according to court documents.

Note: A previous version of this story stated Chick-fil-A would donate half of Monday’s sales to the victim’s families. That is incorrect. CBS 6 apologizes for the error.
