RICHMOND, Va — As firefighters work to contain the Rocky Mount fire in the Shenandoah National Park, two girls are letting them know how much their efforts are appreciated.

Shenandoah National Park shared pictures of some artwork by two girls, Stella and Eliza. The girls sent the drawings to the Grottoes Volunteer Fire Department, one of several fire departments involved in the containment efforts.

“Fire is red, water is blue. I don’t know firefighters better than you!” read one of the drawings.

The fire was 43 percent contained Sunday. A little under 9,000 acres had burned by then. Crews were using air units to help with efforts.

The fire is believed to have been caused by people.
