Police name man fatally shot in Henrico County home’s backyard

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- Police have released the name of a man shot to deathTuesday afternoon in eastern Henrico County at a home not far from Richmond International Raceway.

Officers were called for a firearm violation call near the intersection of E. Laburnum Avenue and Pilots Lane just after 2 p.m.

"Officers located male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds who was pronounced at the scene," Henrico Police Lt. Chris Eley said.

Officials said 28-year-old Corey Benjamin Jones of Richmond was killed in the shooting.

"The incident has been classified as a homicide and the investigation is ongoing," Eley said.

Sources earlier told WTVR CBS 6 that several children were inside the blue house when bullets started flying outside.

Those sources said Jones' body was found in the home's backyard next to a parked car.
