CAROLINE COUNTY, Va -- A man was killed after he was hit by a car on Interstate 95 in Caroline County late Tuesday night. Virginia State Police said the crash happened at around 11:30 p.m.
"A male pedestrian was struck by a Honda Civic in the left lane of I-95 southbound in between the rest areas at the 108 mm in Caroline County," Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. Steve Vick said. "The roadway is not lit. At this time there are no charges against the driver that hit the pedestrian."
Investigators said they would release more information later Wednesday after the victim's next-of-kin had been notified. The circumstances surrounding the crash were not available.
State Police closed all southbound lanes overnight while they investigated the crash. That investigation continued into the rush hour on Wednesday.
Lanes had reopened by the Wednesday morning rush hour.
