RICHMOND, Va. — Evan Bernard Black, the Richmond man accused of sexually assaulting a child at the Science Museum of Virginia on Valentine’s Day, was arraigned Monday on Aggravated Sexual Battery and Abduction with Intent to Defile charges. Both charges are felonies.
The Abduction with Intent to Defile charge carries with it the possibility of a life prison sentence.
Black, who is being held without bond at the Richmond Justice Center, is due back in court May 2.
Black, 25, was arrested in March after police shared photos of the Science Museum suspect. He was initially charged with abduction.
Police were called to the Science Museum at about 4:50 p.m. on Valentine’s Day after a child said she was touched inappropriately by a stranger.
“The Museum has provided security footage and is cooperating with the investigation,” Science Museum of Virginia Director Richard Conti said when the incident was first reported in February.
Cpt. Randy Howard, with Capitol Police, said “two independent” tips identified Black from surveillance images. Both tipsters know Black, and neither know each other, according to Black.
