RICHMOND, Va. -- After a Seattle woman was found dismembered days after she disappeared, following a date with a man she met online, there is a growing concern about online dating.

For those looking for love or a relationship, finding that perfect match can sometimes be just a click away. The world of online dating has grown in popularity with many different dating sites and apps available.

Karen McIntyre of Richmond said she goes on dates once a week from people she's met online.

"It's easy to just skim through the app like Tinder, if you have five minutes to spare it's easy to just swipe through," said McIntyre.

But to stay safe, McIntyre said she takes several safety precautions before meeting someone.

"I always meet them in a public place and I usually tell my friends who I'm going out with," she said.

In light of recent news about Ingrid Lyne, a Seattle mother of three, who was murdered after meeting up with a man she met online, experts have provided tips on how you can stay safe in the online dating world.

"I would get Google Voice and have a different phone number just set up for the dating purposes," said one expert.

It's also recommended to always drive yourself to the date.

Karen said the situation with the Seattle mother is tragic, but said it doesn't change her views of online dating, as people should always be cautious dating anyone they meet anywhere.

"I don't think the medium of where you meet them is really the focus here, but just meeting anyone for the first time you should take some precautions," she said.
