LOUISA COUNTY, Va. — A father and two of his children were sentenced to prison for distributing heroin in Louisa County. Billy Joe Bentley Sr., Billy Joe Bentley Jr., and Megan Bentley were sentenced to a total of 70 years — with 61 years suspended — for dealing drugs and violating probation.

“This shows how dangerous the heroin epidemic has become,” Louisa Commonwealth’s Attorney Rusty McGuire said. “Mr. Bentley and his family will all spend time in prison for spreading heroin to addicts in our community.”

Bentley Sr., 46, was sentenced to a six-year active prison sentence on two counts of distributing heroin and a probation violation.

Earlier this year, Bentley Jr., 20, was sentenced to a three-year active prison sentence on two counts of distribution of heroin.

Megan Bentley, 23, was sentenced to 40 years in prison, two years of active incarceration, for two counts of distributing heroin and one count of conspiring with her father to distribute heroin, according to the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.

“Almost everyone has been touched in some way by the influx of heroin to central Virginia; whether it is through a family member or close friend,” McGuire said. “For those dealing with addiction, their families, and their friends, know that there are treatment programs out there. But, make no mistake; we will vigorously prosecute dealers like the Bentley family who seek to prey on those who suffer from addiction.”

Louisa Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Adam J. Ward credited the arrests and convictions to the hard work of the Louisa Narcotics Task Force and the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office.

“They thoroughly investigated the Bentley family and were able to tie them together in a conspiracy to distribute heroin,” Ward said. “Mr. Bentley Sr. said just that when he admitted under oath that he conspired with Megan to sell heroin.”
