HENRICO COUTNY, Va. -- Are you excited about the new Cabela’s in Short Pump? At least a half dozen people lined up in anticipation for the grand opening of the outdoor gear store set to open Wednesday, April 6 at 10 a.m.

The chain, founded by Dick and Mary Cabela in 1961, will settle into an 82,000 square-foot store located at 5000 Cabela Drive in the West Broad Marketplace shopping center.

Cabela’s said to expect an “immersive outdoor experience with wood construction, stonework, dozens of wildlife displays and museum-quality taxidermy mounts, vintage outdoor photos and memorabilia, hand-painted murals, an aquarium and an indoor archery range”

Cabela’s will also offer an express café, gun library and Bargain Cave.

The store has hired 150 full-time, part-time workers and seasonal workers to operate the store. Corporate said that most employees were hired locally.

The Short Pump store will be Cabela’s second Virginia location, the other opened in 2015, in Bristol. Another store in Prince William County is scheduled to open in spring 2017. It will be the first Cabela's location in the Washington, D.C., metro area.
