RICHMOND, Va. -- In February we told you about Katie Whatley, a local girl battling Leukemia at the Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU. Katie was recovering from a bone marrow transplant, when she was surprisedby the Delta Chi fraternity at VCU on Valentines Day.
The special story captured the hearts of thousands and Central Virginia.
Katie was diagnosed with T-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in January 2015. In December while going through a clinical trial, her doctors discovered leukemic tumors on both her optics nerves.
Now, Katie is still recovering from surgery in the hospital, but she celebrated her 8th birthday Wednesday.
The family says on their Courage for Katie Facebook page, she has been sick recently, but she is still in good spirits. The family even posted some pictures of Katie decorating a birthday cake.
