ORANGE, Conn.– An Easter egg hunt for children at the PEZ visitor center in Connecticut turned chaotic when some parents didn’t follow the rules on Saturday.
The third annual hunt was free and split up into three start times for different age groups. Event organizers put out more than 9,000 eggs across the fields in Orange.
But, according to PEZ officials, parents started grabbing for goodies before the event began. WFSB reported some children were knocked over and trampled in the melee.
“Unfortunately people chose to enter the first field prior to anyone from Pez staff starting the activity. The crowd moved to the second field, waited for only a couple of minutes and proceeded to rush the field without being directed to do so and before the posted start time,” PEZ said in a statement.
PEZ officials issued an apology. They said they passed out candy and coupons to make sure no child left empty handed.
No injuries were reported and police were not called.
The Facebook event page is now full of comments in support for the company.
“I for one am horrified at what your staff had to witness I also feel bad for the children. We wonder why kids can’t follow directions when parents are being so incredibly selfish.”
“Thank you PEZ for trying to do a great thing for kid’s in the community. Shame on the parents for ruining the event.”
“I am so sorry that the selfishness and greed of parents turned this event into a mad house. I feel that you do not owe the public an apology for anything other than trying to give back to a community for small children.”
