RICHMOND, Va. -- Boxes full of love found their way to a transitional housing shelter this week.

About 200 brand new books were delivered to children who have experienced homelessness and who may not get the opportunity to have new books.

The owners of Bbgb tales for kids bookstore in Carytown took up the challenge in December during the CBS 6 Month of Giving. They helped us surprise one little girl with books and a bookcase of her own.

The store owners decided they wanted to help more of the children who come through Housing Families First shelter, so they invited the public to pitch in for a long-term book drive.

The Hilliard House Shelter plans to give each child a book of their own when they get there, and at least one book to take along to their new home when they leave.

" ... Just the show of community support through people that have learned about us and said we care about that, we care about the families and we want them to have something new,” said Beth Van-Turnbull, who works with the shelter. “That's what this is all about to us.”
