RICHMOND, Va. -- Two Thursday murders increased the city’s murder count to 16, compared to four at this time last year. One of those murders included an East End woman, who was sitting in the house when shots rang out.

Friday Richmond detectives canvassed the block of one of the shooting near the intersection of N. 29th and Y Streets, following the murder of 49-year-old Kemberly Ann Marie Williams, inside a Richmond home.

Sources tell CBS 6 Williams was the victim of a drive-by shooting.

A Church Hill woman said she is at a lost today as she prays for her neighborhood.

Another neighbor, Carlos Viero, removed a remaining piece of crime tape tied to his fence.

"This is going to be a regular thing," said Carlos Viero, concerned about the future of his neighborhood.

Viero said he keeps replaying the noise he heard outside of his home Thursday.

"I was sitting on my couch. I thought it was firecrackers. It was so many shots," he said.

A resident inside the rooming home sprayed with bullets Thursday, showed CBS 6 a bullet hole in the bathroom.

"If you was like right here and came through, it was going to hit you directly in the head. Come out and hit that door," said the unidentified resident living in the home.

He says it was right next door to a bedroom where another bullet killed Williams.

"When you get a shooting…this is getting ridiculous. There's no need for these guns," said Viero.

Viero said Williams had a kind heart who would help anyone in need.

"She was an innocent bystander. She wasn't doing anything, but talking to somebody in the house and a shot came through the window," said Viero.

Carlos blames abandoned homes in the neighborhood for the increased violence.

"They're always hanging out in there…just tear them down," said Viero.

While Richmond detectives search for Williams killer, neighbors in a portion of Church Hill, near Creighton court, pray the violence will stop sooner than later.

Richmond police need the public's help to solve this murder. Call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 780-1000 or Major Crimes Detective Edward Aeschilmann at 804-646-3351.
