RICHMOND, Va. -- The Cameron Gallagher Foundation is receiving a $10,000 grant from a group created and run by teenage girls.
Girl Power Grants selected the nonprofit to receive the check. The Cameron Gallagher Foundation was among three finalists for the money.
Morgan Rhudy founded Girl Power Grants in 2014, when she was just 13 years old. It is a nonprofit grantmaking organization for girls ages 12‐17.
"We run on a general concept where 100 girls get together, each raise 100 dollars, so we can annually fund a 10,000 dollar grant.”
The girls secured an impressive 68 members in their first year with a goal to reach 100 girls in future years.
Together, they raised $10,000 to give away, and they received 16 grant applications from Richmond-area nonprofits.
On Wednesday, March 16, the group will hear presentations from three organizations, then vote on which group will receive the $10,000 check.
Connor's Heroes, The Friendship Circle and the Cameron Gallagher Foundation are the finalists.
The giveaway runs from 6-8 p.m. at the Sabot at Stony Point School.
